Summary:

DeKalb County is home to 82 elementary schools serving students from Pre-K through 8th grade, with enrollment ranging from 218 students at Coralwood Education Center to 1,093 at GLOBE Academy Charter School I. The district ranks 136th out of 201 Georgia districts, and the data reveals a striking divide: a cluster of northern schools consistently ranks in the top 10-15% statewide, while many southern and eastern schools fall into the bottom 10-15%.

At the top, Austin Elementary School leads the district with a 96th percentile state ranking and math proficiency rates roughly double the district average—84.9% in 3rd grade versus 35.9% district-wide. Robert Shaw Theme School is equally impressive, achieving 84.2% 3rd-grade math proficiency while serving a 100% free/reduced lunch population and posting the district's lowest chronic absenteeism rate at 2.8%. Other 5-star standouts include Ashford Park Elementary School and Vanderlyn Elementary School. At the other end, Stoneview Elementary School ranks last in the state with 0.9% 5th-grade math proficiency and 44.1% chronic absenteeism, joined by Snapfinger Elementary School and Peachcrest Elementary School in the bottom 1%.

Chronic absenteeism is the district's most consistent predictor of performance—schools with rates below 10% (including Oak Grove Elementary School and Montgomery Elementary School) all rank in the top 25% statewide, while every school above 30% absenteeism ranks in the bottom 15%. Notably, Idlewood Elementary School jumped over 300 spots in state ranking this year, and high-poverty schools like Edward L. Bouie- Senior Elementary School and Wynbrooke Elementary School prove that demographics don't dictate outcomes. Spending shows no clear link to achievement—Austin spends $16,662 per student while Toney Elementary School spends $29,467 with far weaker results. English Language Arts scores are not yet available for this release and will be published in December.
