Open Quote I used to be the music educator and kindergarten support (2016-2017) Overall I enjoyed this experience because of the students and my teacher team. But the administration was atrocious. They were not professional in their duties and left me stranded in my first year of teaching. This experience was so traumatic I went into counseling a few months after. All because of the lack of resources given to me and because of the constant hostility I received from the head academic advisor (Dr. Williams). I was so eagered to come in and create a new music program but then I was called and pulled in every other directions. A lot of the areas I had no expertise. I did make minor mistakes but it was my first job after college. I graduated from Morehouse College with a B.A. in Music (Vocal Performance). Soon after I started it was like they didn't know what to do with me. I was placed into being kindergarten support and still expected to teach music and also the LPA Chorale (an after school choral ensemble). The kids have no true outlet when it comes to the arts. They will not be ready for high school. They have no real cafeteria, NO LIBRARY, and the list goes on and on with the inadequacies. This school is on life alert. When I was there I revamped the music department after a 1-2 years of them not having the program. We did a holiday tour, we placed 4th in the state in music performance at Jr. Beta Club competition, I choreographed most of the holiday program, and more. I did my job to the best of my ability. There would be days where I didn't know where I was suppose to be. The schedule changed so much but I would get reprimanded for not knowing. They never came to observe me. Also this church is located in New Birth Church (Bishop Eddie Long old church) which was an issue for time to time in terms of scheduling and space. This school has been around for 10 years. why don't they have a building by now. I never will work in a charter school like this again. I don't advise anyone to opt into this school. I never even got a chance to tell my students good bye before they removed me for failing to adhere to their standards. Again, I was hired to be a music teacher not a substitute, or kindergarten support , or anything else. They didn't know what to do with me. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
