Open Quote If you are seeking a school of quality compared to the surrounding neighborhood schools such as Cedar Grove or Oakview Elementary then yes, this school is an option. Unfortunately, Narvie J. Harris has tons of work to do internally in order to improve.
Honestly, what saves this school is their dynamic PTA Committee. Without their PTA this school would not be where they are currently. School's depend on its leadership, and the staff is only as good as their leader. The Principal is extremely obnoxious and rude- even when you speak to him he will not speak to you. The male teachers at this school follow that as well. Mr. Kirkland is a prime example.
I must say, the teachers overall are okay- as long as your involved with your child's education and that makes sense. I can tell a difference in what my child is learning from day to day. Its clear the teachers put in much more effort than their leadership. And for that, I appreciate everything Narvie's teachers do there. I even appreciate the front office staff. They are wonderful.
The school programs are phenomenal so I do appreciate the effort and dedication the staff and students put into the programs each year.
In closing, this school is just okay with so much potential to be GREAT. But it must start with its leader- Dr. Tart. If Narvie was ever astute enough to part ways with certain leaders at Narvie- you would probably witness test scores improve and professionalism in staff flourish. Dr. Tart must expect more from his staff and address concerns that involve its community stakeholders, staff, students, and parents. It is his job to build that rapport. Without the Principals true dedication this school will continue to lag in its process. Simply put, We have work to do Narvie! Close Quote

Open Quote Narvie J Harris has good intentions but the delivery needs some work. Parents committed to the theme school curriculum value parental involvement and academic rigor for their children. However, parents still want their kids to enjoy going to school while being challenged academically. Students should not feel like or be treated like they are in boot camp. I find is disheartening to watch young children not want to come to school, not because of the work but because of the constant drilling of frivolous rules. "Not walking with your hands on your lips or on the silver line", doesn't equal a discipline or behavior problem. Enroll your child here with extreme caution as they will be prepared academically but their self esteem and self worth will take a huge hit. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
