Summary:

Spokane School District is an urban eastern Washington district serving approximately 61 schools across elementary, middle, high school, and alternative programs, with students in grades spanning kindergarten through 12th grade and specialized pathways. The district ranks about the middle of Washington districts overall, but its schools vary widely in achievement, student needs, enrollment, and program design. Families will find both highly rated traditional schools and campuses that are working through substantial academic challenges.

The strongest traditional schools are concentrated among a small group. Wilson Elementary is the district’s leading elementary school, ranking in the 92nd statewide percentile with 72.85% ELA, 79.05% math, and 88.71% science proficiency. Moran Prairie Elementary, Hutton Elementary, Mullan Road Elementary, Balboa Elementary, and Jefferson Elementary also perform well. At the middle-school level, Sacajawea Middle School leads the district, followed by Carla Peperzak Middle School. Among traditional high schools, Lewis & Clark High School has the strongest academic profile, while Ferris High School shows notable improvement.

The most important districtwide concern is math, which trails ELA and often falls below state results, particularly at several middle and high schools. Lower-performing campuses include Logan Elementary, Regal Elementary, Shaw Middle School, and Denny Yasuhara Middle School. However, improvement is visible at Woodridge Elementary, Pauline Flett Middle School, Indian Trail Elementary, and Ruben Trejo Dual Language Academy. Alternative programs should be judged separately: On Track Academy has a 94.2% graduation rate despite low test scores, while Bryant Center reports strong assessment results. Small enrollments and suppressed results also warrant caution when comparing schools.
