Summary

Franklin Elementary is a public PK-6 school serving 428 students in the Spokane School District, performing solidly overall but showing a notable decline in its statewide ranking over the past few years.

Academically, Franklin's test scores in English, Math, and Science are above both district and state averages, with science being a particular strength. However, its overall ranking has dropped from the 79th percentile to the 66th percentile among Washington elementary schools since 2022. This decline is especially pronounced for certain student groups, such as those in special education and from low-income households, where performance rankings have fallen sharply. The school spends more per student than many neighbors, like Hamblen Elementary and Hutton Elementary, which achieve higher proficiency with lower budgets.

Compared to nearby schools, Franklin sits in the middle of the performance spectrum. It significantly outperforms schools like Stevens Elementary but trails top performers like Hutton Elementary. Challenges include a performance gap between male and female students and weaker 5th-grade math scores. While still a good school, Franklin's recent trends suggest a need for targeted support to help all students thrive and regain its former standing.

Open Quote This is the worst school I have ever dealt with. Teachers were uneducated, staff lacked simple knowledge on how to enrich children's minds. Conformity is the standard and not individualism. I would NEVER recommend this school to anyone. Close Quote
