Stevens Elementary in Spokane, Washington, serves 438 students in prekindergarten through fifth grade at 1717 E. Sinto Avenue in the Spokane School District. The school serves a higher-need population, with 87.44% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Its 12.1-to-1 student-teacher ratio and $22,176 per-student spending are broadly comparable with nearby traditional elementary schools. Stevens’ statewide ranking has improved from the 2nd–5th percentile range in earlier years to the 15th percentile in 2025–26, but it still ranks below most nearby schools.

Stevens’ results are stronger than Logan Elementary and Bemiss Elementary in all three subjects, but generally trail Cooper Elementary, Grant Elementary, Garfield Elementary, and Longfellow Elementary. Spokane Public Montessori reports higher results but serves a different grade span and student population.

The most important instructional pattern is a sharp decline after third grade. Third-grade proficiency reached 36.76% in ELA and 45.45% in math, while fourth-grade ELA fell to 19.12% and fifth-grade math to 17.65%. Fifth-grade science also warrants focused attention. These results suggest that helping students maintain third-grade gains through the upper elementary years could make a substantial difference. A notable bright spot is Stevens’ English Language Learner subgroup ranking at the 85th percentile statewide, indicating practices that may be useful more broadly. Overall, Stevens is improving from a very low baseline, but families should expect a school still working to close sizable achievement gaps, particularly in upper-grade literacy, math, and science.
