Summary

Hutton Elementary is a public school in Spokane, Washington, serving 492 students in prekindergarten through sixth grade in a residential area near central Spokane. It is part of the Spokane School District, which ranks at the 50th percentile statewide, while Hutton ranks considerably higher: 170th of 1,138 Washington elementary schools, in the 85th percentile, for 2025–2026. The school received a four-star rating and has a long history of above-average performance, although its statewide ranking has gradually declined from the 93rd–98th percentile range in many earlier years.

Hutton’s latest test results are strong compared with both the district and Washington overall. Proficiency was 65.69% in English language arts, 67.36% in math, and 79.71% in science. Science is the school’s clearest strength, while math is another major advantage: Hutton’s math rate was 27.74 percentage points above the district and 24.25 points above the state. Math performance was also fairly consistent across grades, ranging from 65.22% to 69.15%. Fifth-grade ELA stood out at 75.36%, compared with 59.21% in third grade. Among nearby schools with current, unsuppressed results, Wilson Elementary was the local leader, but Hutton was generally the next strongest performer and exceeded Jefferson Elementary, Hamblen Elementary, and most other nearby schools.

The main issue to watch is recent momentum. From 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, ELA declined from 76.21% to 65.69%, math eased from 69.74% to 67.36%, and science improved from 73.53% to 79.71%. Hutton serves a comparatively less economically disadvantaged enrollment than most nearby schools, with 29.67% of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, so that context matters when comparing outcomes. Even so, its subgroup results were generally above statewide norms, including a 91st-percentile ranking for special education students and a 74th-percentile ranking for low socioeconomic status students. Overall, Hutton remains a strong local choice, particularly in science and math, while its recent ELA decline and longer-term ranking trend deserve attention.

Open Quote attended the school from k-6, and while the education i received was amazing, and i am forever grateful for the lessons i have learned, the environment is very closed minded. teachers and students are extremely sexist, and rude to any minority for that matter. conservative teachers forced their values on you, and if your beliefs were any different, you received the punishment. do not come into this school expecting equality. Open Quote Common Core Implementation is killing this school. New teachers are not concerned about student achievement just what the principal dorects them to do. I have withnessed what goes on as far as assessment levels and they do not match what is reported. Prinicipal is an authoritarian known for excessive puinishment Close Quote

Open Quote This is a terrible school if you don't make enough money to keep up with the "rich kids". Don't expect bullies to be disciplined if your child is the odd man out. Being different is not tolerated here. Close Quote
