Summary

Shadle Park High School is a large public high school serving about 1,445 students in grades 9-12 within the Spokane School District in Spokane, Washington.

The school presents a mixed picture: it has a significant strength in graduating its students, with rates consistently above 88%, but it faces considerable academic challenges. State rankings have declined over the past decade, and proficiency scores in math and science are notably lower than at other comprehensive high schools in the area, such as nearby North Central High School. This creates a paradox where students are successfully earning diplomas despite often testing below average, suggesting strong support systems to keep students on track for graduation.

Comparisons with neighboring schools reveal important context. While Shadle Park's per-student spending and class sizes are similar to schools like Rogers High School and North Central, the academic outcomes differ. The analysis also shows large performance gaps between different groups of students at Shadle Park, indicating a need for more targeted instructional support. For parents, the key takeaways are the school's supportive environment for graduation contrasted with its ongoing struggle to improve core academic proficiency, particularly in mathematics.

Open Quote Covers little material over one year. The science department was seriously lacking in information and pace, however English covered very useful and informative material. Overall, the teaching was slow and not engaging. Every class catered to the slowest kid, who is also usually the least motivated. As a result, everyone else's growth was stunted. The restroom situation was ridiculous. Admin may as well have wiped my ass for me when I finished. This isn't a place where children become adults. Close Quote
