Summary:

Stockton has 122 schools—82 elementary, 8 middle, 23 high and 9 alternative—serving students across a range of grade levels and school types. The records provided are a selection, not a complete picture of all Stockton schools. Among eight traditional high schools with 2025–2026 results, average proficiency was 46% in ELA, 13% in math and 23% in science, compared with state averages of 49%, 38% and 36%. The clearest concern across this group is math, where its average was 25 percentage points below the state.

Results vary sharply from school to school. Elkhorn led the supplied elementary- and middle-grade schools, with 2025–2026 proficiency of 95% in ELA, 89% in math and 87% in science—46, 51 and 51 points above state results. Middle College High was the standout among supplied high schools: its 11th graders scored 93% in ELA, 61% in math and 75% in science, exceeding same-grade state results by 35, 30 and 36 points. At the other end, New Vision High had the lowest supplied 11th-grade results: 6% in ELA and 0% in math and science. Among elementary schools, John C. Fremont and John Marshall also posted low results across all three subjects.

The eight-school high-school group’s ELA average rose by 3 points from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, while its math average was nearly flat and science rose by 4 points. Compared with state changes, the group narrowed its ELA gap by 3 points, widened its math gap by 1 point and narrowed its science gap by less than 1 point. SchoolDigger ranked Middle College High 46th of 2,137 California high schools (98th percentile; five stars) and Elkhorn 5th of 2,703 middle schools (100th percentile; five stars). School-level free/reduced lunch eligible figures for sy 2024–2025 were 54% at Middle College High and 45% at Elkhorn; these are context, not explanations for results. Ratios also do not neatly match performance: Middle College High’s was 32.1 students per teacher and Elkhorn’s was 25.8, while Venture Academy had a lower 21.0 ratio but lower 2024–2025 proficiency.
