Summary

North Star Academy is a public alternative school in Bluffdale serving 522 students in grades K–9, with a strong academic record and a generally favorable attendance profile. The school operates independently as its own district. Its 2024–25 student–teacher ratio was 19.0:1, and 16.4% of students were chronically absent—better than Utah’s 23.8% rate and most nearby alternatives. North Star’s 6.7% free- or reduced-price lunch rate is also relatively low compared with surrounding schools, an important consideration when interpreting achievement comparisons.

Academically, North Star Academy was one of the strongest schools in the comparison group in 2025–26. English language arts proficiency ranged from 67.4% to 77.8% in grades 3–8, well above Utah rates of 43.8% to 46.6%. Science was especially strong, ranging from 64.7% to 91.1% in grades 4–8 and exceeding state results in every grade. Math was also generally above state levels, including an impressive 84.5% proficiency rate in grade 4. Compared with nearby Early Light Academy at Daybreak and Ascent Academies of Utah Lehi, North Star led in most listed ELA and science grades, although Early Light was stronger in grade 9 math and Ascent led in grade 5 math.

The main academic qualification is grade 7 math, reported as a range of 40–58%, which does not establish whether the school exceeded Utah’s 46.2% rate. Individual grades may also fluctuate from year to year. Still, North Star’s performance was substantially stronger than that of several nearby schools, including Mountain West Montessori Academy, Providence Hall, and Ascent Academies of Utah West Jordan, in many comparable subjects and grades. Families should also note that the only available spending figure, $5,914 per student, is from 2018–19 and offers limited insight into current resources.
