Canyons District

Canyons District includes 46 Utah schools serving grades K–12, with 29 elementary schools, 8 middle schools, 8 high schools, and several specialized or alternative programs. Performance varies widely: some schools rank among Utah’s best, while others face substantial challenges in attendance, mathematics, and graduation outcomes.

Among elementary schools, Peruvian Park School is the strongest overall, ranked 3rd statewide, followed by Sunrise School, Lone Peak School, Willow Canyon School, and Granite School. These schools generally report proficiency rates from about 60% to above 90%, although attendance is not always low. Middle-school leaders include Albion Middle, Draper Park Middle, and Butler Middle, with especially strong science and eighth-grade results. By comparison, Midvale Middle and Union Middle have much lower mathematics proficiency despite unusually low reported absenteeism.

For high schools, Brighton High and Corner Canyon High stand out for high rankings, graduation rates above 92%, and relatively low dropout rates. Alta High also graduates most students, but its mathematics proficiency is considerably weaker. The largest concerns are Hillcrest High and Jordan High, where lower academic results coincide with elevated dropout rates. Elementary schools such as Midvale School, Copperview School, and Sandy School also report low proficiency and high absenteeism. Families should compare current test results, attendance, programs, and school fit, especially because specialized schools such as Diamond Ridge High School are not directly comparable with large comprehensive schools.
