Mountain West Montessori Academy is a 450-student alternative public school in South Jordan serving kindergarten through ninth grade. The school has a student-teacher ratio of 20.3 and a relatively low free/reduced-price lunch rate of 16.67% compared with several nearby alternative schools. Its 2024–25 chronic absenteeism rate was 23.9%, nearly identical to Utah’s 23.8% statewide rate.

Attendance has improved meaningfully, falling from 34.3% in 2021–22 to 23.9% in 2024–25. The picture improves in the upper grades. Seventh-grade math reached 54.6%, above Utah’s 46.2%, and several seventh- through ninth-grade results are competitive with or above state performance. Ninth-grade math, reported in the 50–68% range, compares favorably with results at Summit Academy High School, Providence Hall, and Ascent Academies of Utah West Jordan. However, North Star Academy is substantially stronger academically overall, while Early Light Academy at Daybreak generally leads in elementary testing. The clearest improvement opportunity is strengthening instruction in grades 3–6, especially math and science, while preserving the practices supporting stronger middle- and ninth-grade outcomes.
