Summary

Crescent School is a public elementary school in Sandy, Utah, serving 468 students in kindergarten through 5th grade within the Canyons District. It is located near several other Canyons elementary schools, making local comparisons especially useful. Crescent ranks in the 32nd percentile statewide for 2025–26—an improvement from the previous two years, but still below most nearby schools.

Academically, Crescent’s 2025–26 proficiency rates were below district averages in every reported grade and subject. Average proficiency was approximately 41.5% in English language arts, 40.8% in math, and 43.5% in science. Math is the clearest academic priority, particularly 5th grade, where proficiency was 37.1%. Still, math and science improved from the prior year, suggesting some positive momentum. Attendance is a major concern: 29.8% of Crescent students were chronically absent in 2024–25, compared with 18.8% districtwide. That was higher than nearby Glacier Hills Elementary at 6.4%, Sprucewood School at 26.5%, and Sunrise School at 23.0%.

Crescent serves a higher-need population than most nearby schools, with 36.32% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Only Glacier Hills was similar at 37.54%; rates were lower at Sprucewood, Draper School, and Sunrise. Crescent’s student-teacher ratio of 20.1:1 is typical for the area, so class size alone does not explain its results. Glacier Hills may be the most practical comparison because it has a similar student population and overall ranking, but much lower absenteeism. American Preparatory Academy–Draper #2 shows the area’s higher-achievement potential, although its student population and school model differ substantially. Overall, Crescent appears to be recovering, with its main priorities being attendance, upper-grade math, and sustaining recent gains.
