Summary

Midvale School is a K–5 elementary school serving 644 students in Midvale, Utah, within the Canyons District; it is a relatively large neighborhood school located near several other elementary schools.

The most important concern is the school’s consistently low academic performance. Midvale ranked 560th out of 563 Utah schools in 2025–2026, placing it in the 1st percentile, and has remained near the bottom for most recent years. RISE proficiency rates were low across every tested grade and subject: 8.2% to 17.5% in English language arts, 14.1% to 18.7% in mathematics, and 12.5% to 15.3% in science. Fourth grade deserves particular attention, especially its 8.2% ELA proficiency rate. These results are considerably weaker than the district averages, which were generally near 50% or higher. The pattern also appears schoolwide, with low results for English learners and students from low-income households, suggesting a need for stronger instruction, interventions, and student supports across grades rather than in just one subject.

Midvale’s results are notably weaker than those at nearby same-district schools. East Sandy School ranked in the 39th percentile, while Midvalley School ranked in the 27th percentile and posted substantially higher test results, even though its student-teacher ratio is higher. East Midvale School also performed much better. Attendance is improving at Midvale, with chronic absenteeism falling from 56.9% to 40.8%, but the latest rate remains exceptionally high—more than twice the district rate. The school’s economic need is substantial, and its staffing ratio is not unusually high, so family engagement, attendance support, instructional consistency, and effective intervention systems may be especially important areas to examine.

I love the Spanish Dual Immersion program of this school. My son has been our professional translator and he is just finishing 2nd grade! The staff is absolutely amazing. Kids have such potential. Plus they have a brand new building, which is totally luxurious and logistically wise well set up for the children and their learning abilities. The school offers a lot of items in support of learning, other schools do not have these options. Love this school and their administration staff, those ladies are amazing at each single welcoming of your presence. Close Quote
