Summary

Midvale School is an elementary school located in Midvale, Utah, serving grades K-5 with a total enrollment of 651 students. It is part of the Canyons School District, which is ranked 34 out of 93 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger. However, Midvale School has consistently ranked in the bottom 10-20% of Utah elementary schools over the past decade, with a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Midvale School significantly underperforms compared to the Canyons District and the state of Utah in standardized test scores across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2024-2025, only 21.2% of 3rd graders at Midvale School were proficient or better in RISE Mathematics, compared to 52.2% in the Canyons District and 48.6% statewide. Additionally, Midvale School has a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, with 72.96% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in 2023-2024, which is significantly higher than the nearby East Sandy School, which has a free/reduced lunch rate of 50.85%.

Midvale School also faces challenges with chronic absenteeism, ranging from 16.0% to 42.5% over the past few years, much higher than the state average and the nearby Canyons District schools. The school's relatively high student-teacher ratio, ranging from 17.2 to 20.2, may also contribute to its underperformance. While Midvale School's per-student spending of $9,736 in 2018-2019 suggests that funding and resources may not be the primary driver of the school's challenges, addressing the root causes of chronic absenteeism and improving teaching and learning could be important areas of focus for the school's improvement.

Open Quote I love the Spanish Dual Immersion program of this school. My son has been our professional translator and he is just finishing 2nd grade! The staff is absolutely amazing. Kids have such potential. Plus they have a brand new building, which is totally luxurious and logistically wise well set up for the children and their learning abilities. The school offers a lot of items in support of learning, other schools do not have these options. Love this school and their administration staff, those ladies are amazing at each single welcoming of your presence. Close Quote
