Midvale School

Summary:

Midvale School is an elementary school located in Midvale, Utah, serving grades K-5 with a total enrollment of 722 students. The school is part of the Canyons District, which is ranked 26 out of 100 districts in Utah and has a 4-star rating. Midvale School has a diverse student population, with a racial makeup that is significantly different from nearby schools in the district.

Despite its diverse student body, Midvale School consistently ranks in the bottom 10% of Utah elementary schools, with a statewide ranking between 517-560 out of 561 schools in the most recent years. The school's performance on RISE assessments is significantly lower than the Canyons District and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. This persistent academic challenge may be linked to the school's extremely high percentage of students (over 99%) who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population.

Compared to nearby schools in the Canyons District, such as East Midvale School, Sandy School, and East Sandy School, Midvale School has a relatively high student-teacher ratio of 20.2 and a higher per-student spending of $9,736. These factors may contribute to the school's ongoing academic struggles, and further investigation into resource allocation and targeted interventions may be necessary to address the persistent achievement gaps.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I love the Spanish Dual Immersion program of this school. My son has been our professional translator and he is just finishing 2nd grade! The staff is absolutely amazing. Kids have such potential. Plus they have a brand new building, which is totally luxurious and logistically wise well set up for the children and their learning abilities. The school offers a lot of items in support of learning, other schools do not have these options. Love this school and their administration staff, those ladies are amazing at each single welcoming of your presence. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
