High Schools in Gwinnett County

Gwinnett County is home to 28 high schools serving grades 9-12, ranging from large comprehensive campuses to specialized STEM and health science academies, alternative centers, and intervention programs across one of Georgia's largest and most diverse districts.

At the top of the pack, Gwinnett School of Mathematics- Science and Technology (GSMST) stands alone as the #1 ranked school in the state, with a perfect 100% graduation rate, the lowest chronic absenteeism in the district at 3.8%, and near-perfect Biology proficiency. North Gwinnett High School is the other elite option, ranking in the top 6% statewide with a 97.4% graduation rate and strong scores across all subjects. A competitive middle tier—including Brookwood High School, Mill Creek High School, Parkview High School, and Grayson High School—consistently outperforms state averages, with graduation rates between 88-95% and solid test proficiency. Notably, Shiloh High School is the district's rising star, jumping 102 spots in state rankings over two years, while Seckinger High School, a newer school, has seen its ranking slip as its population has grown.

The most significant challenge is the achievement gap tied to poverty. Schools like Meadowcreek High School and Berkmar High School, where 77-85% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch, show chronic absenteeism above 40%, graduation rates in the low 80s, and test scores well below district norms. By contrast, more affluent schools like North Gwinnett and Lanier High School have absenteeism below 15% and much stronger outcomes. Specialized programs like GSMST and Paul Duke STEM High School prove that focused academies can succeed even with economically diverse student bodies. The alternative schools—Gwinnett InterVention Education (GIVE) Center East, Gwinnett Intervention Education Center (GIVE) West, Phoenix High School, and the International Transition Center—serve students with unique needs and should not be compared directly to traditional schools. Across the district, U.S. History proficiency lags behind other subjects, suggesting a potential area for curriculum focus.
