Summary

Archer High School in Lawrenceville, GA, is a large public high school serving 3,058 students in grades 9-12 within the Gwinnett County School District. The school holds a 4-star rating and ranks 86th out of 455 Georgia high schools, placing it in the 81st percentile statewide.

Archer stands out for its strong academic performance, particularly in U.S. History, where 56.6% of students score proficient—18 percentage points above the state average. The school also posts solid proficiency rates in Algebra I (60.9%) and Biology (50.4%), both well above state averages. These results are especially notable when compared to nearby schools like South Gwinnett High School, which trails significantly in all three subjects. Archer's graduation rate of 93.8% far exceeds the district average of 85.4%, and its dropout rate of 1.4% is less than half the district rate. The school also earns high marks for serving specific student groups, ranking in the top 10% statewide for African American students and English Language Learners. One area of concern is chronic absenteeism, which sits at 20.8%—higher than the district average of 15.0%—though this has not appeared to suppress academic outcomes.

Archer's closest academic rival is Grayson High School, located just 3.7 miles away. The two schools are similar in graduation rates and demographics, but Grayson holds an edge in Biology and U.S. History, while Archer leads in Algebra I. Notably, Archer achieves its results while spending less per student ($11,432) than several nearby schools with weaker outcomes, including Central Gwinnett High School ($14,292) and Dacula High School. While Archer's state ranking has fluctuated in recent years, its test scores have steadily improved, suggesting the school remains a consistently effective choice for families in the area.

Open Quote As a former parent of multiple Archer students I am so glad we made the choice to move our children from the school. They are NOT prepared for the collegiate setting at all. The GPAs coming out of this school are not accurate as students retest until they get it right. Safety is an issue at the school. And the rate of permissive transfers into this school should be noted. There are many behavioral issues that are ignored for various reasons including athletics, admin/teacher kids, etc. Close Quote

Open Quote The schools wrestling coach is a coach all schools wish they had! The principle, as well OUTSTANDING! Too bad he's leaving...that will be a HUGE lose. We can only hope one as good will be appointed to the school. Archer parents are PROUD and provide a lot to extra curricular activities. The school is beautiful and the high school kids are well rounded. Thanks you, to the staff at Archer for all you do for my son, Taylor M. and all of the kids! Close Quote
