Summary

Meadowcreek High School in Norcross, GA, is a large comprehensive high school serving 2,609 students in grades 9-12 within the Gwinnett County School District, where 85.5% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch—the highest rate among comparable area high schools.

The school's biggest challenge is chronic absenteeism. At 43.3%, Meadowcreek's rate is nearly three times the district average (15.0%) and more than double the state average (17.7%). This is the highest among nearby comprehensive high schools, exceeding even Berkmar High School (41.9%), which serves a similarly high-poverty population. Academic proficiency on state tests remains well below district and state averages—for example, only 20.6% of students are proficient in Algebra I (district: 57.6%) and 11.9% in U.S. History (district: 40.5%). The school's graduation rate of 82.6% is below the district (85.4%) and state (87.2%) averages, though it has remained stable over five years. The dropout rate of 4.3% is nearly double the district rate, though it has improved from 7.1% in 2021-2022.

There are encouraging signs. Algebra I proficiency has more than tripled in three years, from 5.9% in 2022-2023 to 20.6% in 2025-2026, suggesting targeted math interventions are working. English Language Learner students rank in the 24th percentile statewide—the school's strongest subgroup performance. Meadowcreek also spends more per student ($14,523) than higher-performing nearby schools like Paul Duke STEM High School ($12,091) and Parkview High School ($12,145), and maintains a favorable 13.8:1 student-teacher ratio. Notably, McClure Health Science High School, with a nearly identical poverty rate (85.7%), outperforms Meadowcreek substantially in both test scores and graduation rate (92.7% vs. 82.6%), suggesting school-specific practices may hold lessons. Reducing chronic absenteeism to even the district average could be the most powerful lever for improvement.

Open Quote I Dislike this school very much.
I HATE the students that attend it, and the teachers aren't that great either.
The Ap's are horrible as well.
I do not recommend anyone to attend this school.
If I had a choice, I would have left the very first day I attended. Close Quote

Open Quote Despite all the criticism and negatives comments about the school, we DO have positive things. Most people look beyond our achievements and call us ghetto. Unless they actually go there, they can't say any stereotype about the school. We're diverse and people may think we're mostly poor but a lot of students lie on free and reduced lunch forms. We're also ethnically diverse which might be seen as a bad thing to others, but it's the diversity that sets us apart from other schools. We do have smart kids and struggling ones but what school doesn't? We don't deserve this negative rep. Close Quote
