Academically, Discovery High School's performance, as measured by the percentage of students proficient or better on the Milestones Assessments, is generally lower than the Gwinnett County and Georgia state averages across various subjects and grade levels. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school's proficiency rates were 35.2% in American Literature and Composition, 20% in Algebra I, 34.9% in Biology, and 33.9% in United States History, compared to the Gwinnett County averages of 44.4%, 53.3%, 49.5%, and 40.8%, respectively. However, the school's four-year graduation rate has been relatively stable, ranging from 81.3% to 85.4% over the past few years, which is on par with the Gwinnett County average.

When comparing Discovery High School to nearby schools in the Gwinnett County district, some interesting patterns emerge. Brookwood High School and Peachtree Ridge High School consistently outperform Discovery High School on academic measures, with higher proficiency rates and higher statewide rankings. Schools like McClure Health Science High School and Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology have significantly higher academic performance, with proficiency rates often exceeding 50% or even 90% in some subjects. This suggests that there may be opportunities for Discovery High School to implement targeted interventions and strategies to improve student outcomes, particularly in the areas of academic proficiency.

Open Quote i’m not one of the students that hates their school just to fit in, but this school is terrible. i mean, the kids are terrible raised, they stink, like actually smell bad, and it’s had numerous threats in the past few months from students. i mean last year 2 kids were playing with a gun trying to be gangster and killed eachother. everybody there is racist and the statistics speak for themselves. avoid going here if you can, because it’ll be miserable.
