Summary:

Iron District has four high schools serving 2,938 students in southern Utah: three schools serve grades 9–12, while Parowan High serves grades 7–12. Overall, the district ranks 44th of 92 Utah districts, but its schools vary considerably in size, ranking, attendance, and academic performance.

Launch High is the strongest overall performer, ranking 25th of 139 schools and earning four stars. It has the district’s highest test results in nearly every comparable area, including ninth- and tenth-grade English language arts and science, and ninth-grade math. Its 1.5% chronic absenteeism rate is also exceptionally low. Parowan High ranks second locally, at 41st statewide, and also earns four stars. It performs well across grades 7–10, particularly in English language arts and math, though tenth-grade math and some middle-grade science results are weaker. Because it serves grades 7–12, its enrollment and results are not perfectly comparable with the other schools.

Cedar City High is the largest school, with 1,372 students, and has an excellent 97.7% graduation rate. However, its statewide ranking has declined sharply, and it has the district’s highest chronic absenteeism rate at 17.6%. Its ninth-grade results are generally solid, while tenth-grade math and science need attention. Canyon View High also reports a 97.7% graduation rate and performs comparatively well in tenth-grade math and science, but its ninth-grade English and math results are substantially weaker. Across the district, tenth-grade math is the clearest academic challenge, with every school below 35% proficiency. For families comparing options, Launch and Parowan stand out for current rankings and broad academic strength, while Cedar City and Canyon View offer strong graduation outcomes but more mixed achievement patterns.
