Iron District

Iron District includes 16 schools serving students from prekindergarten through grade 12 in an area with approximately 13,850 enrolled students, including nine elementary schools, two middle schools, four high schools, and one alternative school. The district ranks 44th of 92 statewide, placing it near the 52nd percentile. Results vary considerably among schools, so families should consider academic achievement, attendance, graduation outcomes, and school size together.

Launch High has the strongest current overall high-school profile, ranking in the 82nd percentile with just 1.5% chronic absenteeism and strong English, ninth-grade math, and science results. Parowan High has the strongest sustained ranking history among traditional high schools and a 92.7% graduation rate, although high-school math and attendance deserve attention. Cedar City High and Canyon View High both report 97.7% graduation rates, but their rankings and proficiency results are more mixed. The largest concern is Southwest Educational Academy, whose alternative-school structure, 4,239 students, 80.4% graduation rate, and 13.1% dropout rate make comparisons difficult.

Among elementary schools, Enoch School combines strong math and science performance with only 0.6% chronic absenteeism, while Iron Springs School is especially strong in upper-grade math and science. Fiddlers Canyon School posts several high scores but has the district’s highest absenteeism rate at 28.8%. Cedar Middle is the strongest middle-school choice overall, outperforming similarly ranked Canyon View Middle in attendance. Families may want to examine support needs at Cedar East School and Three Peaks School, which have the weakest current elementary rankings, and note that high-school mathematics is a districtwide challenge while science is a relative strength.
