Summary:

Washington District includes 48 schools serving students from pre-K through grade 12 in southern Utah, including elementary, intermediate, middle, high, online, and alternative programs. The district ranks 42nd of 92 statewide, but results vary widely among schools. Families can choose from very highly rated schools, specialized programs, and schools that are working to improve attendance and academic performance.

The strongest overall results come from Desert Hills High, ranked 3rd of 139 high schools, and Crimson Cliffs High, ranked 7th. Both have graduation rates above 96%, low dropout rates, and strong grade 10 results. Washington Fields Intermediate is the district’s top middle-grade school, ranking 4th of 217, with especially impressive science scores. Among elementary schools, Crimson View School stands out, including 92.2% grade 3 mathematics proficiency. Career Technical High School is another strong option, particularly in English language arts and science, despite serving a different student population and school model.

Attendance is one of the most important issues for families to consider. The district’s chronic absenteeism rate is 15.4%, but it reaches 57.0% at Millcreek High, 39.8% at Sandstone School, and more than 33% at Pine View Intermediate at Fossil Ridge and Coral Canyon School. Mathematics is also weaker at several secondary schools, including Snow Canyon High and Water Canyon High. Online schools serve many students, but their enrollment and staffing measures are not directly comparable with traditional campuses, so families should consider each school’s program and outcomes separately.
