William Fegely Middle School is a 6th–8th grade school with 566 students in Portage, Indiana, a Northwest Indiana community in Portage Township Schools, where it is one of two middle schools alongside Willowcreek Middle School. On the 2025-26 state rankings it placed 323rd of 486 Indiana middle schools — about the 34th percentile, with a 2-star rating. Test proficiency was 31.08% in ELA, 21.53% in math, and 32.34% in science.

The most important long-term pattern is a decade-long slide: Fegely ranked in the 69th percentile with 3 stars in 2015-16 and has held 2 stars for six straight years. Resources are already generous: the smallest student-teacher ratio in the comparison group (12.4:1) and $12,312 per student, about $1,200 more than Willowcreek, which currently gets stronger math results and lower absenteeism.
