Hobart, Indiana has nine public schools serving roughly 5,285 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. They are split between two districts with very different results: School City of Hobart (six schools — one high school, one middle school, four elementaries) and River Forest Community School Corp (three schools — one high school, one middle school, one elementary). School City of Hobart ranks in the 70th percentile of Indiana districts and holds 4 stars; River Forest sits in the 13th percentile with 1 star.

Within those districts, individual schools vary widely. Liberty Elementary School posts the city's highest math proficiency (58.68%) and its lowest chronic absenteeism (5.2%), and its math results outpace its reading by 17.4 points. Joan Martin Elementary School leads Hobart elementaries in science (44.44%) and posts the city's highest 5th-grade social studies proficiency (58.70%).
