Poudre School District R-1 is a highly rated Colorado district serving roughly 29,400 students across 52 elementary, middle, high, and alternative schools in Fort Collins, Timnath, Wellington, Laporte, and surrounding areas. Among secondary schools, Kinard Core Knowledge Middle School ranks 10th in Colorado with 79.3% math proficiency, Fossil Ridge High School leads traditional high schools with a 97.1% graduation rate, and Timnath Middle-High School has the lowest high school absenteeism at 22.5%. Lesher Middle School has improved from 85th to 44th in state rankings over three years.

The sharpest divide follows poverty. High-poverty schools such as Putnam Elementary School (77% free/reduced lunch) and Centennial High School (75%) post the lowest scores and highest absenteeism, while alternative schools like Poudre Community Academy graduate just 55.4% of students. Yet poverty is not destiny: Tavelli Elementary School, at 36% free/reduced lunch, climbed from 125th to 90th statewide, and Kruse Elementary School and McGraw Elementary School beat the district average despite moderate poverty. Even strong high schools struggle with attendance — Fossil Ridge is 42.7% chronically absent despite its strong graduation record. Parents should look beyond the district's strong overall rank: SAT math proficiency ranges from 19% at Wellington Middle-High School to 91% at Liberty Common Charter School.
