Cascade Middle School is a public school serving about 815 students in grades 6–8 in the Vancouver area as part of the Evergreen School District (Clark). The school serves a relatively high-need community: 59.51% of students qualified for free or reduced-price lunch in 2024–25, although that share has fallen notably from 72.27% in 2022–23. Cascade reports a 19.8:1 student-teacher ratio and $17,398 in per-student spending, higher than nearby Evergreen middle schools with comparable data.

Academically, Cascade is one of the lowest-ranked middle schools in Washington, placing 481st of 514 schools, or around the 6th percentile. Recent changes have been mixed: math improved modestly, while ELA and science declined.

For example, Shahala Middle School posted proficiency rates of 51.97% in ELA, 48.62% in math, and 53.62% in science, while Covington Middle School, a more similar comparison, also outperformed Cascade in every reported subject. Cascade’s low results across nearly all student groups suggest a schoolwide challenge rather than a problem limited to one population. For families, the most important questions may involve consistent instruction, grade-to-grade academic support, eighth-grade preparation, attendance, school climate, and how effectively interventions are implemented.
