Summary

Fircrest Elementary is a public PK-5 school serving 341 students in Vancouver, Washington, within the Evergreen School District (Clark), an area where many families face economic challenges, as reflected in the high percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.

Academically, the school faces significant hurdles, with student proficiency in English, math, and science consistently below both district and state averages, placing it in the bottom 10% of elementary schools statewide. This performance represents a notable decline over the past decade. While Riverview Elementary and Ellsworth Elementary in the same district perform better, Fircrest's results are similar to other lower-performing neighbors like Crestline Elementary and Burton Elementary. Interestingly, Fircrest spends more per student than most of these nearby schools, suggesting that the level of funding alone is not the primary factor in student outcomes.

The school's performance varies considerably by grade level, with third-grade English scores being particularly low while fourth-grade math is a relative strength, indicating potential areas for targeted support. The long-term downward trend in the school's ranking, alongside its higher economic need compared to most district peers, points to complex challenges. However, the existence of schools like Endeavour Elementary, which has shown recent improvement, suggests that positive change is possible within the local educational landscape.

Open Quote Rude nasty staff all the way to the top with the principal running this place like a military boot camp. I was picking up my children one afternoon and heard the principal yelling at her staff in front of children as they were returning to class from lunch. This is not a love in logic running school. This place has a very negative attitude. My 3 children have gone to Ellsworth elementary, and Burton elementary school and they always came home happy and their staff always were friendly Close Quote
