Summary

Prairie High School is a large public high school serving grades 9–12 in suburban Brush Prairie, Washington, with 1,502 students in the Battle Ground School District. The school ranks near the middle of Washington high schools, at the 48th percentile, but its 87.5% graduation rate and 8.4% dropout rate are better than both district and state results. Prairie’s 43.48% free- or reduced-price lunch rate suggests a moderately diverse range of economic circumstances.

Academically, Prairie’s clearest strength is English language arts. In 2025–26, 59.27% of students were proficient in ELA, compared with 50.55% districtwide and 52.81% statewide. Math is the main concern: only 29.27% were proficient, versus 42.34% in the district and 43.11% statewide. Science performance was also below comparison levels, at 41.45%. Math results have remained below 31% across the four reported years, while ELA has fluctuated considerably. The school’s recent overall ranking improved from the 35th percentile in 2024–25 to the 48th percentile in 2025–26, although it remains below its stronger results earlier in the decade.

Compared with nearby large schools, Prairie performs considerably better than Evergreen High School and Heritage High School in several tested subjects, though Heritage has a slightly higher graduation rate. Hockinson High School is a stronger traditional-school benchmark, especially in math and ELA, but it is smaller and has a lower rate of economic need. Vancouver iTech Preparatory also posts stronger math and science results but has a specialized mission and different student population. Important priorities for Prairie are improving math and science instruction and strengthening outcomes for special education students, whose effectiveness ranking was at the 19th percentile.
