Summary

Pleasant Valley Middle is a public school serving 447 students in grades 5-8 in Vancouver, WA, as part of the Battle Ground School District, and it consistently ranks in the top half of Washington middle schools.

The school stands out for its strong academic growth, especially in math, where student proficiency improves dramatically from 5th to 8th grade, ultimately exceeding state and district averages. This performance is notable given that nearly half of its students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and the school achieves these results with per-student spending comparable to others in its district. Pleasant Valley effectively supports its diverse student body, often outperforming nearby schools with similar or even lower rates of economic need, such as Laurin Middle and Daybreak Middle.

Within the context of the stronger-performing Battle Ground School District, Pleasant Valley ranks as the second-highest middle school. Its results are particularly impressive when compared to schools in neighboring districts like the Vancouver School District, where schools such as Discovery Middle School and Gaiser Middle School have significantly higher economic need and much lower proficiency rates, demonstrating Pleasant Valley's effective and efficient academic programs.

Open Quote I'm a junior in high school, and now reflecting back on my experience with this school, I realize this was the most awful and hostile environment I've ever been in. I can't decide on who was worse; the teachers or the students. At no point of the three years I went to this school did I feel safe. It is under budgeted and understaffed. I remember children's parents needing to volunteer to watch us during lunch and they would punish us severely for talking. Talking during lunch was a punishable offense of Saturday school or even suspension should you do it enough. Overall, this was the most absolutely terrifying and beyond awful experience for me. For the love of whatever you do or don't believe in, don't send your children here unless you have no choice. Close Quote
