Summary

Laurin Middle School is a public school serving 745 students in grades 5-8 within the Battle Ground School District in Vancouver, WA, and it currently faces significant academic challenges, performing below both district and state averages.

The school's academic performance, particularly in math and English Language Arts (ELA), is the lowest among middle schools in its own district, with proficiency rates notably lower than nearby schools like Chief Umtuch Middle and Tukes Valley Middle School. This trend is part of a concerning decade-long decline in its statewide ranking. While the school serves a population with a higher level of economic need than its district peers, other schools with similar demographics, such as Pleasant Valley Middle, achieve significantly better results, suggesting factors beyond economics are at play.

Compared to some middle schools in other districts, like Covington Middle School, Laurin performs better, but it falls far behind more affluent schools like Hockinson Middle School. The data also shows Laurin has the lowest per-student spending in the Battle Ground School District, raising questions about resource allocation. Performance varies by grade, with 7th-grade ELA and 8th-grade math showing particularly large gaps, indicating a need for targeted support at those levels.

Open Quote I think the school is great for my child, she thinks the teacher's are, "AWESOME!" It seems that she has fun learning, because the teachers create, new, and fun ways to learn, in my opinion, it does deserve a 5 star rating, and I think that the teachers are great. Close Quote
