Summary

Mountain Ridge High is a large public school serving grades 10–12 in Herriman, Utah, and the Jordan District. With 2,738 students, it is the largest of the nearby district high schools. Its biggest strength is keeping students on track: the 2024–25 graduation rate was 95.1%, above the district’s 91.8% and Utah’s 89.8%, while the dropout rate was 4.5%. Chronic absenteeism also improved to 15.9%, better than district and state rates, although it remained much higher than Bingham High’s unusually low 0.4%.

The main concern is academic achievement, especially mathematics. On the latest 10th-grade Utah Aspire Plus assessments, Mountain Ridge students scored 40.7% proficient in ELA, 18.2% in mathematics, and 37.4% in science. Each result was below the state, and mathematics trailed nearby Bingham High, Riverton High, and Herriman High. ELA declined notably from 49.0% the previous year, while science improved slightly. The school’s statewide ranking fell to 102nd of 139 schools, or the 27th percentile, after ranking 63rd in 2023–24.

Mountain Ridge’s results are uneven rather than uniformly weak. In 2023–24, its ELA and science scores exceeded district and state results, showing that stronger performance is possible but has not been sustained. Recent subgroup effectiveness results also warrant attention: English Language Learner effectiveness fell to the 19th percentile from the 93rd percentile the prior year, while special education effectiveness improved to the 42nd percentile. For families comparing large nearby schools, Mountain Ridge stands out for strong graduation and persistence outcomes, but its current academic results—particularly in mathematics—and recent ranking decline are important considerations.
