American Academy of Innovation

The American Academy of Innovation is the only school listed in the American Academy of Innovation area. It is a public school serving grades 6–12 in South Jordan, Utah, with 373 students and a student–teacher ratio of 18.2 to 1. The school’s statewide ranking improved from 112th of 138 schools in 2024–2025 to 89th of 139 in 2025–2026, rising from the 19th to the 36th percentile and returning to a two-star rating. This improvement is encouraging, although the school remains below the statewide midpoint.

Academic results are mixed. English language arts is the strongest area, particularly in 10th grade, where 51% of students were proficient compared with 48.2% statewide. Tenth-grade science was also close to the state average, at 38.4% versus 39.3%. Mathematics is the clearest challenge across the school: proficiency was under 20% in 6th grade, 24.4% in 7th grade, 10–29% in 8th grade, and 12.8% in 10th grade, all below Utah results. Science performance was generally below the state in middle school, especially in 8th grade, while high-school science results were more competitive. Attendance is the most serious concern for families to consider. Chronic absenteeism affected 56.3% of students in 2024–2025, compared with 23.8% statewide—a difference of 32.5 percentage points. The graduation rate was 86.5%, slightly below Utah’s 89.8%, while the dropout rate was 9.6%, above the state’s 8.5%. Overall, the school offers a small 6–12 setting with encouraging strengths in upper-grade English and science, but parents may want to ask about mathematics support, attendance interventions, and how the school helps students transition from middle to high school.
