Tooele District

Tooele District includes 26 schools serving elementary, middle, high-school, and alternative students across the Tooele area and smaller, remote communities such as Dugway, Vernon, and Ibapah. The district serves about 16,087 students, with enrollment ranging from fewer than 20 students at Vernon School and Ibapah School to more than 2,300 at Stansbury High. Overall, the district ranks below most Utah districts, but school results vary widely by campus and grade level.

Among elementary schools, Stansbury Park School has the strongest overall ranking and consistently high achievement, especially in science and mathematics. Rose Springs School combines strong results with the lowest chronic absenteeism among larger elementary schools, while Middle Canyon School has shown substantial ranking improvement and the district’s strongest reported third-grade mathematics result. Old Mill School performs steadily above district averages, and Twenty Wells Elementary has also improved. Elementary mathematics—particularly in grades five and six—remains a major concern at schools such as Northlake School, Copper Canyon School, and Willow School.

At the middle-school level, Grantsville Junior High has the best current mathematics results, but attendance is a significant concern there and at Tooele Junior High. Clarke N. Johnsen Junior High has exceptionally low chronic absenteeism, though its recent academic results are mixed. Among traditional high schools, Stansbury High has the highest graduation rate and strongest overall profile, while Grantsville High shows notable improvement and strong ninth-grade mathematics. Tooele High has a solid graduation rate but higher absenteeism. Districtwide priorities include reducing chronic absenteeism, improving elementary mathematics, lowering dropout rates, and supporting the Digital Education Center, where graduation and dropout outcomes are much weaker.
