Summary

Utica Elementary School is a K–5 building in the small Knox/Licking County community of Utica, Ohio, serving 358 students as one of two elementary schools in North Fork Local. In 2025–26 it ranked 951st of 1,560 Ohio elementary schools (39th percentile, 2 stars) — roughly in line with its district, which sits in the lower-middle of Ohio districts.

Utica is the lowest-ranked school in its own local comparison group. Its in-district twin, Newton Elementary School, ranks slightly higher (42nd percentile), while Mount Vernon City schools such as Wiggin Street Elementary School (96th percentile, 5 stars) and East Elementary School (93rd percentile, 5 stars) sit near the top of the state. Utica improved steadily for years, peaking at the 64th percentile in 2023–24, then gave back nearly all of that ground in two years. The 2025–26 dip was concentrated in fifth grade, math, and science: math averaged 10.4 points below the state, while English/language arts was only 2.2 points below. Fifth-grade math is weak across North Fork Local — Utica 39.7 and Newton 32.8 against a state figure of 59.1.

Chronic absenteeism has fallen from 26.1% in 2021–22 to 11.8% in 2025–26, consistently well below the district, and students with disabilities score above the school's own overall level. Just over half the student body is economically disadvantaged (53.35%), the highest among nearby schools reporting that figure. Spending ($9,171 per student) and class size (16.1:1) are mid-pack and don't explain the gap — Wiggin Street Elementary School spends less and scores far higher. The near-term question is whether 2025–26 was a one-year cohort effect or the start of a return to the 34th-percentile floor Utica held a decade ago.
