Summary

Northern Guilford High is a public high school in Greensboro, North Carolina, serving 1,291 students in grades 9-12. This school stands out as a high-performing institution within the Guilford County Schools district, consistently outperforming the district and state averages in academic metrics.

Northern Guilford High's academic performance is particularly strong, with proficiency rates that exceed the Guilford County and North Carolina state averages in end-of-course exams across subjects like Biology, English II, Math I, and Math III. For instance, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school had a 60.4% proficiency rate in EOC Biology, compared to 46.8% for the district and 48.3% for the state. The school's performance is especially impressive in Math III, with an 85.5% proficiency rate, significantly higher than the district's 65.4% and the state's 66.4%. Additionally, Northern Guilford High maintains high four-year graduation rates, ranging from 86.9% to 94.1% over the past few years, consistently outperforming the district and state averages.

While Northern Guilford High performs well across different student subgroups, it faces some challenges in supporting English Language Learner and Gifted and Talented students, ranking in the bottom 25% of North Carolina high schools in these categories. Interestingly, the school's relatively low percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients, ranging from 12.55% to 25.64% over the past few years, suggests that it serves a more affluent student population compared to some nearby schools, which may contribute to its strong academic results despite having lower per-student spending than other high-performing schools in the area.

Open Quote I like the location of the school away from the inner city and the troubles that are associated with the schools closer to the city of Greensboro. As a parent that is looking to be very involved in my daughter's senior year, I feel helpless. They don't seem to be equipped to deal with parent involvement. Everytime I call, I have to be transferred all around the school and still never get an answer to my questions. I had to jump through so many hoops just to meet her teachers. When I did meet them, most were in so much of a hurry they were no help. The school website looks like a 7 grader made it. Difficult to navigate. Teachers give their email addresses but seldom respond to email inquiries. With all the parents that use high school as free day care, you'd think they'd be happy to have a parent who wants to be involved. Close Quote
