Summary

Bethany Community School is a small public school in Summerfield, NC, serving about 640 students in grades 6–12, and it operates as its own single-school district — one ranked 73rd of 246 in North Carolina (four stars), well above neighboring Guilford County Schools (150th) and Rockingham County Schools (171st). After a strong four-star 2024–2025 season, the school's own statewide ranking settled at the 50th percentile in 2025–2026, but attendance and graduation offer clearer bright spots. Chronic absenteeism ran just 19.1% in 2024–2025 versus 24.2% statewide, far better than Western Guilford High (37.4%), Page High (38.8%), or Reidsville High (53.9%), while Bethany's 93.6% graduation rate tops the 88.8% state average and has climbed from 85.0% in 2022–2023.

The school's academic profile is strongest in its middle grades and in advanced math. On the latest EOG exams, Bethany's 6th–8th graders beat state proficiency rates in every tested subject — including 63.3% in 8th grade math versus 53.0% statewide and 73.3% in 8th grade science versus 68.6%. In high school, Math III is the standout, with Bethany exceeding the state average for four straight years (88.5% versus 68.9% most recently), slightly ahead of Northwest Guilford High (86.6%) and Northern Guilford High (86.5%). Other End-of-Course tests are less consistent: English II (63.7%) is just under the state's 64.6%, while Biology (49.5%) and Math I (34.9%) trail by larger margins.

Bethany's 15.1 student-teacher ratio is the lowest among nearby secondary schools, suggesting the potential for more individual attention, and its special education and low-income students have generally posted statewide rankings near or above the school's overall level in recent years — a sign of strong support for students who often face greater academic challenges. With only about 640 students spread across seven grades, single-year swings can be substantial, so multi-year trends are more meaningful than any one result. On balance, Bethany is a steady, mid-to-upper-tier school in the area between Guilford and Rockingham counties, with high attendance, a rising graduation rate, and genuine academic strengths — though it does not quite match the very top comprehensive high schools on every measure.

Open Quote This school doesn't care very much about the students, they care about themselfs, even a teacher said, "I'm saying this to keep me out of trouble". I hate that we left Summerfield Chater for this school, BCMS is very poorly run, Close Quote
