It is the strongest-performing traditional zoned high school in the immediate area, ranking #232 out of 662 North Carolina high schools (65th percentile) with a 3-star rating for 2025–26. Grimsley outpaces nearby traditional high schools like Page High and Ben L. Smith High School by a wide margin; the only schools ranked above it locally are smaller specialized programs such as UNCG Early/Middle College and STEM Early College @ NC A&T SU. Its district, Guilford County Schools, sits in the 39th percentile statewide, making Grimsley a clear standout in comparison.

Academically, Grimsley High posts strong End-of-Course results in most subjects. English II proficiency is about 77%—roughly 12 points above the state average and far ahead of Page High, Ben L. Smith High School, and James B. Dudley High. Biology and Math III also exceed district and state averages. The exception is Math I, where only about 33% of students are proficient, roughly 10 points below the state average.
