Summary

Wilton Elementary is a small PK-5 elementary school in Franklinton, North Carolina, serving about 350 students in Granville County Schools. It ranks in the 57th percentile statewide with a 3-star rating, making it the strongest elementary school in its immediate Granville County area — well above neighboring Tar River Elementary, Mount Energy Elementary, C.G. Credle Elementary, Butner-Stem Elementary, and West Oxford Elementary. Its performance is closer to higher-ranking neighboring schools like Long Mill Elementary and Youngsville Elementary. After a dip in the 2023-2024 school year, Wilton has improved for two consecutive years.

Attendance is one of Wilton's most striking advantages. Its chronic absenteeism rate is 20.2 percent — better than the North Carolina average of 24.2 percent and less than half the Granville County district rate of 40.9 percent. On End-of-Grade tests, Wilton exceeds the district average in nearly every grade and subject and outperforms the state average in 4th and 5th grade math, as well as 4th and 5th grade reading. Fifth grade is a standout year: reading proficiency exceeds the state by more than 7 percentage points, and science scores have consistently been far above the district average. Wilton also earns relatively strong marks for supporting African American students and students from low socio-economic backgrounds, with both subgroups ranking in the 72nd-to-79th percentiles statewide.

There are a few areas worth attention. Outcomes for Hispanic students have declined sharply in recent years, falling from the 96th percentile in 2022-2023 to the 34th percentile most recently. The gifted and talented subgroup also shows very low relative rankings, which may deserve a closer look given the school's small enrollment. And while Wilton is clearly improving, it has not yet returned to its pre-pandemic peak of the 86th percentile in 2018-2019. Still, Wilton stands out as a bright spot in Granville County Schools, showing strong attendance and solid academic results compared with its local peers.
