Mountain Island Charter School is a K-12 public charter school in Mount Holly, NC, serving 1,782 students in the Charlotte area and operating as its own single-school Mountain Island Charter district. The 18.7 student-teacher ratio is one of the highest among nearby charter schools, but test results show it has not held students back.

Mountain Island's strongest showing is in elementary and middle school. Results have also been volatile, ranging from 60.9% in 2023-24 to 28.0% in 2022-23. This disconnect between strong middle school math and weak Algebra I results is worth asking about. My daughter goes here and the school administrator focuses only on athletics. They do not have a library for middle or high school students. There is a small selection in the Lower School, but access is restricted to upper school students. They aslo under pay teachers and are not required to have state certified teachers. We are in the process of removimg her from this school. Close Quote
