Summary

North Springs High School in Atlanta, GA, serves approximately 1,195 students in grades 9–12 within the Fulton County School District, and currently holds a 3-star rating with a statewide rank of 146 out of 455 Georgia high schools.

One of the most encouraging stories at North Springs is its graduation rate of 94.9% for 2024–2025—well above the district average of 91.9% and the state average of 87.2%. This means the school is highly effective at keeping students on track to earn their diplomas, even as the percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch has risen to 53.7% over the past two years. The school also shines with specific student groups: it ranks in the 81st percentile statewide for African American students and the 74th percentile for Special Education students, showing strong support for diverse learners. However, there is a notable gender gap—female students rank in the 76th percentile while male students rank in only the 58th percentile—which may be worth discussing with the school if you have a son. In terms of academics, Biology proficiency reached 54.5% in 2025–2026, exceeding the state average, but Algebra I proficiency lags at just 35.3% compared to the district's 60.6%. This subject disparity is one of the largest among nearby schools.

The school's most pressing challenge is chronic absenteeism, which sits at 24.8%—significantly higher than the district (16.6%) and state (17.7%) averages, and well above nearby Centennial High School (14.7%) and Roswell High School (16.6%). The good news is this rate has been improving steadily from 31.9% in 2022–2023. North Springs also invests more per student ($17,896) than many peers, including Pope High School ($13,459), and maintains a favorable 13.3:1 student-teacher ratio. While test scores trail some nearby schools, the school's high graduation rate, strong subgroup performance, and improving rank trajectory suggest it is effectively serving a diverse student body—and that addressing absenteeism could unlock even greater academic gains.

Open Quote Worst mistake sending my child to this school. I’ve seen videos in their phone of them in class making videos while the teacher walks right by. Kids perform sexual acts in the bathrooms. There’s drug us (one kid actually needed emergency assistance. Allegedly). Kids come and go through side doors of the school. Kids cussing all over the place (again, proof is in the videos). No, the teacher cannot be everywhere at every time, but I’ve never seen a school that give the students so much room to mess up. Ive never seen a school where a student can have excessive tarries with no consequences. Close Quote

Open Quote I have a rising 9th grader. He's coming from a private school, and we can easily afford private HS. We've done a lot of research, and have toured the North Springs. My son is very excited about attending, and so are his parents. Close Quote

Open Quote Amazing combination of teachers, staff, principal and students. So many class choices for the students and a great school for my student to find HIS place. Couldn't be happier with all aspects of this high school. Close Quote

Open Quote i have a rising Jr. and am excited about all of the opportunities afforded him at this school. Their motto is "find yourself here" and that is truly evident with all the activities they have going on. He has been able to focus on studies, as well as find some extracurricular activities that he didn't know were out there to enjoy. Having come from Sandy Springs Middle School, he was more than prepared for his AP/honor classes. At the same time, i think he will be just as prepared to head off to college in a few years. Open Quote I am a parent of 3 North Springs High School students (2 recent graduates and one rising junior) and am more than pleased with my kids' experiences, as well as my own experience. When my oldest daughter first started at NS, I chose to get involved by volunteering for PTO activities, school store, the foundation, etc. In doing so I was able to create personal relationships with administrators, teachers, parents and students. This enabled me to form a better picture of the environment in which my kids were spending their days. I found that I was very welcomed into the school community. All 3 of my children have found mentors and cheerleaders who have helped them through their struggles and celebrated their success with them, even after graduation. When students seek personal connections to teachers as mentors, everything changes for them. An overwhelming majority of teachers were committed to helping my children succeed, probably because my children showed an interest in succeeding and were willing to work for it. Their academic achievements helped the older 2 receive admittance to colleges of their choice, as well as scholarship opportunities to help us with the tuition. In addition to the academic growth, my children also grew tremendously as individuals and as citizens of our community. They developed an amazing strength of character, learning to push through adversity and work towards goals, work well with others who have similar interests as well as others who may have not share a common interest or motivation. They were well prepared for their next steps after high school. Close Quote

Open Quote My kids graduated from North Springs last year. My daughter just finished her first year at Tulane and my son his first year at Georgia Tech. I was co-president of the PTO for two years and involved in the Dance Booster Club. During those two years, I worked with most of the faculty and a lot of the parents at North Springs. As a parent, I loved North Springs and everything it offered my children, academically and socially. The faculty encourages parent involvement and appreciates it. The teachers at North Springs are dedicated and passionate about their jobs and care deeply for their students. North Springs offers several academic paths, on level. honors and Ap's. My kids were well prepared academically for college and socially for the real world and I attribute that to their years at North Springs. Close Quote
