Summary

Tapestry Public Charter School is a small public charter school in Doraville, GA, serving just 300 students in grades 6–12 within the DeKalb County school district.

The most striking thing about Tapestry is its ability to keep students engaged and on track to graduate. The school boasts a perfect 100% graduation rate for 2024-2025, far outpacing the district's 81.4% and the state's 87.2%. This isn't a one-year fluke—Tapestry has consistently beaten both district and state averages for years. Its chronic absenteeism rate of 13.6% is also remarkably low, especially when compared to nearby schools like Elizabeth Andrews High School (61.0%) and Cross Keys High School (43.6%). With a student-teacher ratio of just 8.1:1—roughly half that of most traditional high schools—and a per-student spend of $23,743, Tapestry offers an environment where individualized attention is the norm. This approach appears to pay off, particularly for special education students, where the school ranks in the 70th percentile statewide.

Academically, Tapestry shows clear strengths in some areas and room for growth in others. In Biology, the school has consistently outperformed the district, hitting a high of 64% proficiency in 2023-2024 compared to the district's 33.2%. Middle school math is also a bright spot, with 6th and 7th graders scoring well above district averages. However, 8th grade science and social studies scores lag behind state averages, and U.S. History scores have been volatile from year to year. While Tapestry isn't an elite academic powerhouse like Dekalb Early College Academy, its combination of high graduation rates, strong attendance, and solid support for diverse learners makes it a compelling option for parents seeking a small, nurturing school environment that prioritizes student success above all else.

Open Quote My family has had a great experience at Tapestry. This is our fourth year there. I am grateful that this school exists and feel so lucky to have gotten in through the lottery. Thank you, Tapestry! Close Quote

Open Quote If you are on the fence about sending your children here because of all the fancy labels and bold claims, let me just say this: do not send your autistic child here. The paras are not equipped or trained to handle or teach special kids. Do not send your neurotypical kids here. Their education is in jeopardy, and if there is a strong autistic kid on the loose that likes to run around the school and hit students, they will not be protected. And if your kid is sent here and they are bullied, expect nothing to be done about it. If they dare fight back or defend theirselves, they will be dealt the same punishment the bully receives. Proceed at your own risk. Close Quote
