Summary

DSST: Green Valley Ranch Middle School is a grades 6–8 middle school in Denver’s Green Valley Ranch neighborhood enrolling 482 students, about 80% of whom qualify for free/reduced-price lunch, within School District No. 1. The school ranked at the 42nd percentile statewide in 2025–2026 (2 stars), placing it in the middle of Colorado middle schools — down from a 63rd-percentile showing in 2016–2017 but consistent with its recent range of 39th–51st percentile since 2021–2022.

For parents comparing options, DSST: Green Valley Ranch Middle School stands out among nearby schools serving similarly high-poverty populations. ELA proficiency is 39.6%, well above KIPP Northeast Denver Middle School (30.5%), DSST: Elevate Northeast Middle School (24.9%), and Rocky Mountain Prep Green Valley Ranch (24.0%). Math proficiency (23.3%) is far higher than Montbello Middle School (6.8%) and Rocky Mountain Prep Noel (13.8%). Chronic absenteeism is just 25.8%, compared with 38.1% districtwide and 37.1% at DSST Conservatory Green Middle School. The school also ranks at the 63rd percentile for low-income students and 59th for Hispanic students, indicating it serves its historically underserved populations relatively well.

The main weaknesses are math, a recent ELA slide, and support for gifted students. Math proficiency has remained near 23% for four years, roughly 12 points below the state average, while ELA has declined from 45.0% in 2022–2023 to 39.6%. Gifted and Talented students rank at the 5th percentile statewide, a persistent weakness. Grade-level results vary sharply: 7th-grade ELA is strong at 53.7%, but 6th-grade ELA is just 29.3%. A striking comparison: Rocky Mountain Prep Green Valley Ranch shares the same address but posts lower scores (24.0% ELA, 12.1% math) and far higher absenteeism (41.8%). Nearby Denver Green School Northfield, by contrast, is a 5-star school at the 97th percentile — though it serves a much wealthier population (24% free/reduced lunch vs. 80% here). Overall, DSST: Green Valley Ranch Middle School is a solid mid-performing school that keeps students engaged and produces meaningful results in a challenging context, but it must address math and support for its highest-achieving students.

Open Quote DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THIS SCHOOLS GOOD DPS RATINGS. Looking at their ratings compared to all of Colorado middle schools you can how they are in fact a HORRIBLE SCHOOL. They do not comply with 504 Plans. It is impossible to get ahold of anyone. Teacher ignore all emails, messages, notes, etc. My son had over $100 worth of stuff stolen from his backpack that he was told to leave in the classroom. The room was left unattended and unlocked. Among returning he immediately told both teachers and they did not care. They very easily could have asked the classroom to open their bags or even addressed the issue but instead they brushed it off and did nothing. He told them again the next day and a 3rd time and again nothing. He then went above then and reported it to the front desk "office" who did nothing. The next day he told them again and they told him to tell another person. He told that person who again did nothing. No report no noting that it happened, nothing. It turns out they have a big theft problem but no one outside of school knows that because it is never reported or addressed to parents. When their tiny laptops that the school makes each student pay $750 for over a 3 year period( that they don't get to keep and have to pay ridiculous prices for any and all repairs) get stolen you the parent has to pay hundreds of dollars to replace. These are the same computers that they are told to leave in the room when they leave the class room during the day yet they don't lock the doors. This is the least of the schools problem though. The list is endless. RUN DONT WALK AWAY FROM THIS NIGHTMARE OF A SCHOOL! Close Quote
