Summary

Rocky Mountain Prep Noel is a Denver middle school serving 287 students in grades 6–8, located in the Montbello neighborhood and operating within School District No. 1 with a high-poverty population (87.8% free/reduced lunch). The school is currently ranked 446th out of 469 Colorado middle schools, placing it in the 5th percentile statewide. Academic performance sits far below district and state averages in every subject, with only 11.4% of students proficient in ELA, 13.8% in math, and 5.7% in science on the latest CMAS assessments.

Chronic absenteeism is a major concern, at 48.1% — nearly 20 points above the state average and up sharply from 36.7% the prior year. At the same time, the dropout rate is very low (0.8% vs. 3.2% district average), meaning students are staying enrolled but missing significant instruction time. There is one positive trend: math proficiency has nearly tripled in two years, from 5.1% in 2022–23 to 13.8% in 2025–26. However, ELA proficiency remains stuck in the low teens, and science proficiency for 8th graders is about one-sixth of the state average.

The school shares its building with Montbello Middle School, and while RMP Noel outperforms its co-located partner on every subject, both are in the bottom 1–5% statewide. Nearby schools serving similar student populations show that stronger results are possible: DSST: Green Valley Ranch Middle School (79.9% FRL) achieves 39.6% ELA proficiency, and KIPP Northeast Denver Middle School (80.8% FRL) reaches 30.5% ELA. Even within the same charter network, Rocky Mountain Prep Green Valley Ranch more than doubles Noel's ELA proficiency. By contrast, Denver Green School Northfield, just 3.7 miles away, posts 78.6% ELA and 73.7% math with far lower poverty. The gap between RMP Noel and these schools suggests significant room for growth, particularly if chronic absenteeism can be reduced and recent math gains can be replicated across other subjects.

Open Quote my niece has been coming here for the first year, i have attended two of their committee meetings and i just love the communication the Principal has with us parents. not every Principal takes the time to meet the parents, at least from my past experience with all other principals. I also do like the attention they give the students and the after school tutoring program they provide for students who need it. office staff is wonderful and very nice. you get calls from teachers once a month communicating about your students progress. I am definitely bringing my niece for next school year, and in two more years my son will be coming here as well. Close Quote
