Summary:

Schools in ZIP code 92691 include 15 schools, from elementary through high school, plus an alternative school: nine elementary schools, two middle schools, and three high schools. Results vary sharply between schools: among elementary schools, grade 3 ELA proficiency ranges from 24% to 76%, and grade 3 math from 24% to 80%; at middle school, La Paz Intermediate leads Los Alisos Intermediate by 29–38 percentage points across ELA, math, and science. The central takeaway is that school-by-school differences are much larger than a ZIP-wide average suggests.

Castille Elementary and La Paz stand out among their comparable schools. Castille leads in several elementary grades, with 84% in grade 4 ELA, 84% in grade 5 ELA, 80% in grade 4 math, 75% in grade 5 math, and 69% in grade 5 science—34–39 points above the corresponding state results. La Paz is 26 points above the state in ELA, 27 in math, and 35 in science. At the lower end, Linda Vista Magnet Elementary is 20 points below the state in grade 3 ELA and 23 below in grade 3 math; Silverado High is 30–37 points below state results across its three subjects. Silverado also trails the other two high schools by 52–57 points across their comparisons.

Recent changes are mixed: across the 15 schools, average results fell by about 1 point in ELA and math, while science rose by about 2 points. Individual exceptions include gains at La Paz—5 points in ELA, 3 in math, and 14 in science—and an 8-point science decline at Viejo Elementary. SchoolDigger’s 2025–26 rankings place Castille at the 95th percentile among California elementary schools and La Paz at the 94th percentile among middle schools. Context measures do not neatly predict results: free/reduced lunch eligible figures for school year 2024–25 were 28% at Castille, 40% at La Paz, 75% at Los Alisos, and 87% at Silverado. Silverado also had a lower student–teacher ratio than the other high schools (9.1 versus 23 at Trabuco Hills High and 22.1 at Mission Viejo High), despite much lower test results.
