Summary

Del Lago Elementary serves 362 students in grades K–6 in Mission Viejo, in the Saddleback Valley Unified area. In 2025–26, its results were below the state in ELA and math and below the district in all three tested subjects. Most importantly, among nine nearby schools with results that year, Del Lago ranked lowest in ELA and math and second-lowest in science.

Science was Del Lago’s strongest subject relative to the state: 37% of students met the standard, compared with 36% statewide, though the district result was 50% and the nearby-school average was 55%. ELA was its weakest: 41% met the standard, versus 49% statewide, 59% in the district, and a 59% nearby-school average. Math was 37%, close to the state’s 38% but below the district’s 52% and nearby average of 58%. Sixth grade was a bright spot: ELA reached 61%, about 13 points above the state and about 1 point below the district. In contrast, fourth-grade ELA was 29%, the lowest among nearby K–6 schools; fourth- and fifth-grade math were also low, at 26% each.

Over time, math improved from 33% in 2022–23 to 37% in 2025–26, while ELA slipped from 45% to 41%; science fell from 49% to 37%, despite a recovery from a particularly low year in between. SchoolDigger ranked Del Lago at the 51st statewide percentile with 3 stars in 2025–26, down 20 percentile points from 2021–22 and below nearby schools’ rankings of 56–95. In 2024–25, the school had 20.0 students per teacher, the second-lowest reported ratio among nearby schools; only Glen Yermo Elementary was lower, at 16.4. Del Lago reported 49% free/reduced lunch eligible in 2024–25. My daughter is in 2nd grade, she came from foothill elementary. My daughter is learning nothing and the teacher does not return any of my emails. I haved talked to her teacher several times to please keep me posted via email, nothing! I have emailed the principal who has not returned my email. I also paid for an after school math class which was in a different location, they did not help the students either. I feel Del Lago will hire just about anyone to teach and even when a parent reaches out the staff do not care. I was going to give it a 1 rating but Im sure it could always be worse. I am hoping to get my daughter out of this school with the district transfer lottery. Close Quote
