Summary:

ZIP code 92102 has 14 schools: 10 elementary schools, one middle school, two high schools and one alternative school. All 14 have 2024–2025 results, while seven also have 2025–2026 scores. Because schools serve different grade spans, all-grades results are broad indicators rather than fully like-for-like comparisons. The most important finding is that all seven schools with 2025–2026 results were below state proficiency levels in ELA, mathematics and science—even the local leader, Webster Elementary.

Among the 2024–2025 all-grades results, Webster Elementary led in ELA (49%) and mathematics (40%), while Albert Einstein Academies led science (36%). Gompers Preparatory Academy also stood out in grade 11, with 68% proficient in ELA and 39% in science. At the other end, McGill School of Success had the lowest ELA score (18%) and no students proficient in science; King-Chavez Community High had the lowest mathematics result (2%). In 2025–2026, Webster led the seven reporting schools in all-grades subjects, but remained 4–5 points below the state in each. Grade 5 results add a different perspective: Golden Hill K-8 topped local peers in ELA and science, exceeding state results by 6 and 7 points, respectively.

For the seven schools with consecutive-year results, average scores fell from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026 by 2 points in ELA, 1 in mathematics and 1 in science, while their gaps from state results widened by 3, 2 and 4 points. Individual results differed: Horton Elementary improved by 9 points in science, while Chollas/Mead Elementary fell by 10 points in ELA. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile ranking for Gompers rose 27 points from 2022–2023 to 2024–2025, while Sherman Elementary fell 25 points; these are ranking changes, not test-score changes. As context, all 14 schools reported free/reduced lunch eligible (FRL) for 2024–2025, ranging from 46% at Albert Einstein Academies to 97% at Horton and King-Chavez Community High; these figures describe the schools and do not explain their results.
