Kimbrough Elementary is a San Diego K–5 school serving 316 students. Its test results are below San Diego Unified and state proficiency rates in English, math, and science. The clearest concern is grade 5 math: 6% of students were proficient, compared with 37% statewide and 46% in the district.

English is a relative strength compared with nearby schools, while math is the clearest local weakness. In 2025–2026, 31% of Kimbrough students were proficient in English, above the nearby-school average of 27% and second-highest among the seven schools compared; still, that was below the state’s 49% and the district’s 54%. SchoolDigger ranks Kimbrough at the 16th percentile with one star, compared with the district’s 58th percentile and three stars. Its 2024–2025 student-teacher ratio was 22.5, close to the nearby-school average of 22.6; 97% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible, the highest share among those schools. SchoolDigger’s statewide ranking for English Language Learner Students fell from the 42nd percentile in 2021–2022 to the 9th in 2023–2024, a notable decline in how well the school served this group. Its ranking for Homeless Students also fell, from the 50th percentile in 2024–2025 to the 17th in 2025–2026.
