Horton Elementary serves 386 students in kindergarten through grade 5 in the San Diego area and is part of San Diego Unified. In 2025–26, 25% of students were proficient in English language arts (ELA), 19% in math and 18% in science. The school has made progress, but the most important finding is that proficiency remained below both district and California levels in all three subjects.

Even so, the latest absenteeism rate was 12 points above the state and 13 above the district.
