Summary

Cummings Valley Elementary is a 560-student K–5 school in Tehachapi, California, and part of Tehachapi Unified. In 2025–26, its all-grade proficiency rates were higher than both the state and district in English language arts (ELA), math, and science. The clearest overall finding is that the school performs strongly across subjects, with its biggest advantage over the state in math.

Compared with nearby K–5 schools, Cummings Valley had higher all-grade results than both Tompkins Elementary and Golden Hills Elementary: about 54% in ELA, 48% in math, and 43% in science, versus 26%–32%, 21%–25%, and 16%–18%, respectively. It also exceeded state and district rates in every subject; math was 48% proficient versus 38% statewide and 24% districtwide. ELA is a more mixed picture by grade: third-grade proficiency was 35%, below the state’s 44%, while fourth and fifth grades were stronger at 63% and 61%, compared with state rates of 46% and 49%.

Results have improved overall since 2022–23, though ELA and math fell from their 2024–25 highs: ELA rose from 45% to 54% over the four years, and math from 41% to 48%; science was essentially flat, moving from 42% to 43%. Chronic absenteeism also fell, from 30% in 2022–23 to 14% in 2025–26, below the state’s 18% and district’s 24%. SchoolDigger ranked the school in the 68th statewide percentile and gave it 3 stars in 2025–26; the percentile was down from 74 the year before but remained well above nearby El Camino Real Elementary at 28. A notable difference within the SchoolDigger results is that the school’s standing for White Students was at the 41st percentile, 27 points below its overall percentile. In 2024–25, its student-teacher ratio was 26.6, the highest among nearby schools with reported figures, and 39.6% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible.
