Arvin Union

Arvin Union has four schools: three elementary schools and one middle school, serving grades K–8 across the area. In 2025–2026, their average proficiency was 30% in English language arts (ELA), 20% in math and 15% in science, compared with state rates of 49%, 38% and 36%. Every school’s all-grade rate was below the state rate in all three subjects; this shared gap is the most important finding for families comparing schools in the area.

The all-grade leaders were Haven Drive Middle in ELA, at 35%—7 points above the other schools’ average—and Sierra Vista Elementary in math and science, at 26% and 23%, respectively, or 7 and 11 points above the other schools’ averages. Bear Mountain Elementary had the lowest ELA and math rates, 20% and 13%, trailing the other schools’ averages by 13 and 10 points. Science was also low at Haven Drive and Bear Mountain, at 11% each. All-grade results cover different grade spans, so grade-level comparisons are more useful where available: El Camino Real Elementary led grades 3, 4 and 6 in ELA and math, while Sierra Vista led grade 5; El Camino Real’s grade 6 ELA was the only reported grade-level result above its state comparison, by 5 points.

Across the four schools, average ELA proficiency rose 1 point from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, while math fell 2 points and science fell 4; the gap to the state narrowed by 1 point in ELA but widened by 3 in math and 7 in science. Sierra Vista improved in all three subjects, while science fell at the other three schools. SchoolDigger statewide rank percentiles rose for Sierra Vista from 15 to 24 over three years, but fell for Bear Mountain from 9 to 5 and Haven Drive from 40 to 21. Student–teacher ratios ranged from 17.1 at Haven Drive to 22.6 at El Camino Real and Sierra Vista, without a simple match to results. All four report free/reduced lunch eligible (FRL) for 2024–2025: 89% at El Camino Real, 95% at Bear Mountain, 96% at Sierra Vista and 94% at Haven Drive. Chronic absenteeism was 8%–10% at the schools, below the state’s 18%, showing that lower absenteeism did not coincide with state-level proficiency.
