ZIP code 93561 has eight schools—four elementary, one middle and three high schools—serving students from elementary through high-school grades, with 4,770 students enrolled. Among the seven schools with 2025–2026 results, the unweighted school averages were 34% in ELA, 22% in mathematics and 24% in science, respectively 16, 17 and 12 points below California averages. The clearest standout is Cummings Valley Elementary: it was the only school above the state in all three subjects, while the other six were below in all three.

Cummings Valley led with 54% in ELA, 48% in mathematics and 43% in science—5, 9 and 7 points above the state. At the other end, Monroe High (Continuation) had the lowest ELA and mathematics results, at 15% and 0%; its 15% science result was just below Golden Hills Elementary at 16%. Graduation and test results tell different stories: Tehachapi High graduated 95% of students, 7 points above the state, despite below-state mathematics and science results. SchoolDigger ranked Cummings Valley at the 68th statewide percentile, compared with the 13th for Golden Hills and 16th for Monroe; since 2023–2024, Tehachapi High’s percentile fell 21 points, while Cummings Valley’s rose 3. The reported income measure is free/reduced lunch eligible for 2024–2025: 40% at Cummings Valley, 52% at Tompkins and 50% at Golden Hills, figures that offer context but do not explain results. Cummings also had a 26.6 student–teacher ratio, compared with 24.5 at Tompkins and 22.8 at Golden Hills. EPIC de Cesar Chavez has no 2025–2026 school test results in the supplied data; Monroe’s enrollment is only 25, so its percentages reflect a very small school.
